Serendipity.
Privilege to see my lith-printed photograph from 1998, “Mystères”, used for the official poster of the exhibition by Musée Réattu in Arles, France. Until October 1st 2023.
NEW STEP : COLLAGES
I had these collages in my body and soul for almost 10 years. I finally preserved some precious time to work hard on materializing them. The confinement in 2020, with a strange irony, just extended what has been a voluntary isolation period from October 2019 to early March 2020. Overall, I spent 99% of my time on my collages for 9 months. Necessary time for a delivery, you may say: exactly.
This is the very first collage I presented to an audience for the AVALANZ project on February 29th 2020.
Mixed media, including a cyanotype (2000, with Michele Hicks) and a photograph (2017, with Adam Russell-Jones) - size 92x65cm
Souvenir from my office.
Watercolor 1994 & cyanotype - Carmen Kaas at McQueen - 1997.
Now creating in my studio.
One day at a time.
10 years later : beautiful silver print by Hervé Caté. Leica photography.
APRIL 2019: Angel bowing to Teodor Currentzis, and vice-versa, just after the Requiem by Verdi in Vienna.

Art for art, werk, press etc.
Sometimes it’s visceral to work for yourself.
To express yourself.
By all means, whatever it takes.
And that is the toughest work ever.

HUMAN TO HUMAN
I know that all my works deal with human beings.
Whether they appear on the image, or not.
I could maybe define myself as a humanist photographer. Well, at least that’s my hope to be defined that way.
Anyway. All these images take place in a global life project ;
It’s a project about Hope, I guess…

I have my rituals in a hotel room ( don’t we all ?)
First I get rid of all the hotel signs ( « no smoking, 500$ cleaning fee », « Only towels on the floor will be changed », etc…) and put them in a drawer, with any hotel brochure or bizarre book supposed to please everyone.
Then I sometimes move a little some furniture, to find my own harmony in this space designed to be a home far away from home.
Finally I unpack ( fully or not, depending on the length of stay ) and organize my stuff as I do at home, first putting a few significant books on the low table, easily reachable - afterwards I always have this thought when I open the wardrobe: who has been here before ? Who did the same gestures here ? If hangers could talk…
Ah oui !
If the window does not open, at all : I cannot stay. I become oppressed and claustrophobic. I changed hotel sometimes for that reason.
And of course a view is the cherry on the cake.
When all is ready, I open the bed and redo it in my way ( no comment, please ), then I can sit in silence, relax, and enjoy the first cup of coffee.
Needless to say, changing of room in the middle of a stay is not an option . When I settle down, I take root right away.
